Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mohammed Bello-Koko, has stated that the berthing of 12 years old Maersk Edirne, at the Lekki Deep Seaport is an indication that the agency under his watch is poised to provide the leadership and technical guidance required to maximise the potentials inherent in Nigeria” marine and blue economy,
NatureNews learnt that the 12 years old Maersk Edirne, came into Nigeria with a total of “3,376 total cargo onboard, last weekend.
It was also learnt that the ship sailing under the flag of Singapore, has carrying capacity is 13,092 TEU and her current draught is reported to be 12.3 meters. It also has length overall (LOA) of 366 meters and width of 48 meters.
Announcing the berthing of the ship in a statement issued by the agency, Bello-Koko, noted that the visit validates the assurances he gave during the signing of the presidential/ministerial performance bond in December 2023.
Bello-Koko also stated that going by the feat, the Lekki Deep Seaport has in addition to its pioneering of full automation and facilitation of transhippment, proven its readiness to exceed stakeholders’ expectations.
He said: “This development validates the assurances I gave during the signing of the presidential/ministerial performance bond in December 2023. The authority under my watch is poised to provide the leadership and technical guidance required to maximise the potentials inherent in our marine and blue economy.
