Arianespace launches Soyuz rocket from French Guiana

European space company Arianespace on Wednesday said it has launched a Soyuz rocket from Sinnamary, French Guiana, making it the eight launch of the year.

The company said it lifted off Tuesday night from the Soyuz Launch Complex (ELS) in Sinnamary.

The Soyuz mission carrying a FalconEye satellite for the United Arab Emirates was postponed minutes before the scheduled lift-off twice over the previous two days due to weather conditions and technical issues.

Arianespace said the launcher is carrying some 1,340km in payload and “will place its undisclosed satellite passenger into a Sunsynchronous orbit (SSO).’’

The launch was the eighth in 2020 and the first with the Soyuz medium-lift launch vehicle from French Guiana, as the two previous ones were conducted from Russia
