The Waste Pickers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN), Abuja office, in collaboration with the ARBR, on Tuesday, embarked on sensitization and outreach program over adequate safety of waste pickers around the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The event, led by ARBR’s Executive Secretary, Mrs Miranda Amachree saw the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to waste pickers.
The initiative, according to Amachere,
aims to protect waste pickers from harmful exposure to acids and lead, commonly encountered in their line of work.
During the gathering, an essential aspect of the initiative was the distribution of personal protective equipment (PPEs) to waste pickers.
These protective gears are crucial in safeguarding the workers from harmful substances, particularly the exposure to toxic acids and lead that can pose serious health risks.
The event not only highlighted the commitment of WAPAN and ARBR to the well-being of waste pickers but also emphasized their dedication to fostering partnerships with key stakeholders in the pursuit of environmental sustainability.
Together, they aim to create a safer and healthier environment for both the workers and the communities they serve.
The partners described the initiative as a significant step forward in recognizing and uplifting the voices of waste pickers while promoting eco-friendly practices.
