Anthrax Disease: Ondo Govt Cautions Residents on Timely Treatment

The Ondo State government has cautioneds residents on taking preventive measures against contracting Anthrax disease and its
treatment.

The Special Adviser on Health to the Ondo State government, Prof. Dayo Faduyile, gave the advice in a statement on Wednesday in Akure and warned against the delay in the treatment of Anthrax disease.

Faduyile, a former President of the Nigerian Medical Association, said, “Anthrax is fatal if untreated or if treatment is delayed.

“Anthrax is agonizing because it makes an infected person experience discomfort and makes one sicker and sicker if left untreated immediately.”

He said that the disease could be contracted through exposure to infected animals, animal skin hides, their products, as well as eating poorly cooked infected animals.

“People should guard against contact with infected animals. If there is contact with an infected animal, see a doctor to ensure proper treatment with antibiotics,” he said.
