The Alhabibiyya Islamic Society has embarked on Soursop trees planting to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

The tree planting, held at the Alhabibiyya Mosque, Guzape Abuja on the theme: MAKE IT GREEN, was aimed to promote healthy living and environmental sustainability,

The Chief Imam of Alhabibiyya Mosque, Ustaz Fuad Adeyemi, highlighted the significance of the tree-planting effort, noting that it aligns with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, pbuh.

He said: “Tree planting is a noble act taught by the Prophet, and it has an everlasting reward from Almighty God unless the tree dies or is cut down.”

He emphasized that the Soursop tree was chosen for its medicinal properties and its ability to provide shade.

Hajia Rakiya Gambo, the Amirat of Alhabibiyya, lauded the mosque committee for their efforts in honouring the Prophet’s teachings and emphasized the need to plant more trees to enhance the environment.

She committed to supporting future tree-planting efforts, stressing the environmental benefits of the initiative.

Retired Major General Abbas Adekanye also commended the effort, reiterating the importance of trees.

“Trees provide fruits, shade, and serve as a source of green energy,” he stated.

He also recalled that the Geneva Convention, post-World War II, included a clause against the destruction of trees, a principle rooted in both international law and Islamic teachings.

The Alhabibiyya Islamic Society planted over forty pairs of Soursop trees and pledged to expand the initiative with more varieties of plants, both inside and outside the mosque premises.

NatureNews notes that the choice of MAKE IT GREEN as the theme of this year’s Maulid Nabiyy underscores society’s commitment to environmental preservation.
