Adamawa State has partnered with the Federal Government to empower 2 million farmers through the National Agriculture Growth Scheme and Agric-pocket (NAGSAP) initiative, spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu.
Prof. David Jatau, Adamawa’s Commissioner for Agriculture, disclosed this collaboration in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Sunday.
He emphasized that this initiative aligns with Governor Umar Fintiri’s commitment to enhancing food security, creating employment opportunities, and improving the living standards in the state.
Currently, enumerators are registering farmers at local government, ward, and unit levels. Governor Fintiri has directed the 21 council chairmen to allocate 300 hectares of land each, totaling 6,300 hectares.
These plots will be provided to 6,300 individuals, along with all necessary farming inputs, including land preparation.
The objective is for these individuals to cultivate and own the produce, addressing youth restiveness and unemployment while boosting food security.
Additionally, each local government area will allocate one hectare as a model farm for training 100 youths in climate-smart agricultural practices.
Governor Fintiri has engaged consultants and plans to hire more extension workers to promote modern farming techniques at the grassroots level.
This initiative represents a significant step toward empowering farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture in Adamawa State.
