Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital City, has recorded its first rainfall in 2024, thus providing relief to the residents who were enduring excess heat occasioned by high temperatures and incessant power outages.
Heavy rain was reported on Thursday in parts of the FCT, including Orozo and Karshi, while lighter showers were observed in Jikwoyi, the city center of Abuja, and surrounding satellite towns.
Residents who reacted to the rain heaved a sigh of relief as it has been long expected.
However, parts of the city were said to have been flooding, after the rain which lasted for hours. Motorists and pedestrians were forced to wait for the waters to recede or take alternative routes, before they could access their destinations.
It would be recalled that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), had recently predicted rainfall in parts of the country.
