238 bag First Class as UNILAG graduates 12,217

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) will start its 52nd Convocation Ceremonies at the J. F. Ade. Ajayi Auditorium from Monday, January 17 to Friday, January 21, 2022.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing on Tuesday, also disclosed that the University would be producing 238 First Class graduates at the forthcoming ceremony.

Reeling out the activities lined up for the event, the Vice-Chancellor stated that on Friday, January 14, 2022, the ceremonies continue with a Special Jumat Service at theUniversity of Lagos Central Mosque at 1 pm. This will be followed with a Convocation Ceremonies Thanksgiving Service scheduled to hold on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the chapel of Christ our Light, the University of Lagos at 10 am.

According to Prof. Ogundipe, on Monday, January 17, 2022, there will be the Opening of Exhibition at the Senate House Car Park, opposite the J.F. Ade. Ajayi Auditorium at 10.00am.This will then be followed with the Convocation Lecture slated for 12 noon.

The Convocation lecture titled: “Building Back Better: Creating a New Framework for Tertiary Education in Nigeria in the 21st Century”, will be delivered by the Speaker, House of Representatives, Federal Republic of Nigeria and a 1983 Law Graduate of this University, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

He said the Convocation Lecture will be delivered under the Chairmanship of Honourable Justice Amina Adamu Augie of the Supreme Court of Nigeria at the J.F. Ade. Ajayi Auditorium.

“The congregation for the Award of First Degrees, Diplomas, Certificates and Prizes to Graduating Students across all departments and faculties will span three days (Tuesday18, Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 January, 2022)in the morning and afternoon sessions”, he added.

On Tuesday, January 18 will feature graduating students of all departments in the faculties of Education and Social Sciences for the morning session which will commence at 9 am while those from the Faculties of Arts, Environmental Sciences and Science will be held in the afternoon at 1 pm.

On Wednesday, January 19, the convocation ceremony of graduating students of the Faculties of Management Sciences, Engineering and Law will commence at 9.00 am while graduating students of Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Pharmacy, and the Distance Learning Institute is scheduled for 3.00pm.

On Thursday, January 20, 2021, Postgraduate Students will be awarded Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters Degrees, Ph.D. Degrees and Best Ph.D. Award of the School of Postgraduate Studies at 10.00 am.There will also be a luncheon with the Doyen later in the afternoon at the Senate Lounge, 1st Floor, Senate House.

Activities will be wrapped up with a Long Service award ceremony slated for Friday, January 21, 2022, at the Jelili Adebisi Omotola Multipurpose Hall at 10am.

Ogundipe said the University also produced a total of 4,418 in the postgraduate degree programmes among who is a 68-year-old lady as the oldest for the 2019/2020 academic session.

The VC, who is presiding over his last Convocation ceremonies, added that in all, the University will turn out 12,217 graduates in both graduate and postgraduate studies during the 52nd Convocation  

The VC added that of the 7,799 in the graduate programmes, 2,454 made Second Class Upper, 3,459 Second Class Lower, 1,1183 Third Class and 85 with the Pass grades.

In the postgraduate category, the University will present certificates to 145 with Doctor of Philosophy, 3,863 Masters Degrees and 410 in the postgraduate diploma cadre.
