Akwa Ibom Govt Orders Disbursement of N1bn Subsidy Palliative

By Salifu Faridat

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has given the green light for the prompt disbursement of N1bn as the initial installment of the state government’s contribution to supplement the federal government’s palliative package.

The governor, in his statement to the press on Wednesday, provided reassurance to the state that the distribution of palliatives to the residents will commence on Monday, September 4, 2023.

Governor Eno emphasized his dedication to the execution of the One Project Per Local Government Area Initiative, stating that this action aims to quickly alleviate the hardships caused by the removal of fuel subsidies. It’s great to see the governor taking proactive measures to address the challenges faced by the community.

The governor mentioned that with the support from the state government and the 3,000 bags of rice and N2 billion received from the Federal Government, each of the over 2,270 villages in the state can expect to receive at least 50 bags of rice.

He also emphasized that the distribution will not only be limited to village residents but will also include the Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Niger Delta communities, as well as the security services and others who may not have access to the villages. It’s great to see such inclusive efforts being made in Akwa Ibom.

“We have recently approved an additional line of gratuity for teachers, amounting to two billion Naira. This approval has been granted at both the local government and state levels, and the funds will be sourced from the state coffers. Our aim is to implement one project per local government, which will not only provide employment opportunities but also contribute to the overall development of our young population.”

Eno, in response to the protest by a group of young people in the state, expressed deep sadness about the incident. He mentioned that the state government has obtained information regarding certain individuals who are attempting to disrupt the peace in the state.

Eno urged them to refrain from inciting the youth, emphasizing that Akwa Ibom belongs to everyone. He emphasized the commitment of the state government to maintain peace and do everything possible to ensure the continued tranquility of the state.

Governor Eno emphasized the importance for leaders to refrain from making statements that could incite the youth. He stressed that, at this critical juncture, it is crucial for our young people to not be led astray.

Eno also mentioned that the state government possesses intelligence on those supporting these youths and advised them to cease such actions. Let’s work together to guide and support the youth in a positive direction.
