Akpabio Addresses Concerns Over Shabby Environment at National Assembly Complex
The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has addressed the urgent need for a cleaner and safer environment in the National Assembly complex as the 10th NASS commences legislative work.
During a recent visit from the Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), Akpabio highlighted key solutions to tackle the current challenges.
In his address, Akpabio emphasized the paramount importance of proper waste disposal and heightened security measures within the complex.
To achieve this, he called upon the National Assembly Service Commission to prioritize environmental hygiene and security as topmost concerns.
One of the primary issues addressed was the infiltration of unauthorized individuals into the complex, posing security risks to lawmakers and staff.
Akpabio expressed deep concern over incidents of theft, particularly lawmakers losing their phones to hoodlums operating within the premises.
To counter this, he urged the Commission to implement strict access control measures to prevent unauthorized entry and enhance security protocols.
Furthermore, the Senate President stressed the significance of maintaining a clean and tidy environment.
He acknowledged that the current renovations taking place within the complex were commendable, but he emphasized that efforts should also be directed towards maintaining cleanliness.
Proper waste disposal, regular cleaning routines, and environmental awareness campaigns would contribute to achieving this objective.
To ensure the success of these proposed solutions, Akpabio urged the National Assembly Service Commission to allocate adequate resources and funding.
While acknowledging the challenges the Commission faces in payment of staff allowances, he emphasized that striking the right balance between financial management and investing in a cleaner and safer environment is vital.
In response to the call for a more secure and hygienic environment, the Chairman of the NASC, Engr. Ahmed Kadi Amshi, expressed his commitment to supporting these initiatives.
He assured the Senate President that the Commission would work diligently to address the challenges faced in managing staff allowances while also prioritizing the implementation of security measures and waste management systems.
Looking forward, the NASC pledged to work closely with the lawmakers to ensure timely documentation of legislative aides by September. This will contribute to streamlining administrative processes and fostering a more efficient and organized National Assembly.
As the 10th Senate continues its legislative work, the proposed solutions for a cleaner and safer environment in the National Assembly complex hold the promise of not only enhancing the overall well-being of lawmakers and staff but also fostering a conducive atmosphere for robust and effective governance.
Through collective efforts and prudent resource allocation, a positive transformation can be achieved in the nation’s legislative hub.
