The Akwa Ibom Women Association (AIWA), Houston Chapter, U.S., has installed and commissioned a 7.5-kilowatt solar power system at the Child’s Right and Rehabilitation Network (CRARN) in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, to provide reliable electricity for the centre’s children.

The inauguration took place on June 9, 2025, at Ikot Afaha in Eket Local Government Area, with AIWA Houston Chapter President, Mrs. Mercy Odungide, leading the ceremony.

She expressed hope that the solar system would end power outages during the children’s academic activities and enhance their well-being.

Odungide urged CRARN staff to safeguard the installation against vandalism and take full ownership of the project.

Mr. Sam Itauma, CEO of CRARN, described the project as a milestone for sustainability, emphasizing its role in

empowering the children to learn and live with dignity.

He thanked AIWA Houston Chapter for their support, noting that the solar system would enable the children to pursue their dreams without interruption.

Representing the wife of the Eket Council Chairman, Mrs. Maryann Tommey, Vice Chairman Mrs. Inyang Akpawan praised the association for their commitment and generosity, highlighting the positive impact of reliable electricity on the community’s progress and innovation.

She encouraged AIWA to continue attracting development projects to the peaceful Eket Local Government Area.

The solar power system marks a significant step in improving facilities at CRARN and demonstrates the association’s dedication to supporting vulnerable children despite geographical distances.
