Air pollution: Expert advocates investment in air technologies

A public health expert in Nigeria, Dr Femi Ogunremi has called on government at all levels to invest in healthy air technologies to save lives by improving health outcomes.

Ogunremi made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.

He said that the health and life expectancy of all humans had been linked to the quality of air they breathed.

The expert is also the Chief Executive Officer, Monitor Healthcare Limited, a Medical Communications and Technology company.

Ogunremi said that for now, there was no outdoor air cleaner; hence, the need for policies to reduce pollution.

According to him, there is a movement in developed countries towards individuals and organisations proactively using air filters especially with technologies coming out from researches.

“The air technology captures, kills and converts most of these pollutants both particles and organism, including coronavirus, to water and oxygen,’’ Ogunremi said.

He noted that, lately, there had been a surge in the number of people with non-communicable diseases in Nigeria.

“More people are now suffering from kidney failure, heart conditions, liver problems, cancers, eye problems, skin problems among other medical conditions.

“Of interest is that a lot of these conditions are linked to poor quality of air.

“The other part to this is the organic pollutants; example is the coronavirus which has stood up the whole world.

‘’This group of organic pollutants have serious impact on our overall health outcome,’’ Ogunremi said. (NAN)
