Agriculture Stakeholders Call for Proper Implementation of N200 Billion Intervention
Following President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide broadcast titled “After Darkness Comes the Glorious Dawn,” agriculture stakeholders have called for the proper implementation of the Federal Government’s N200 billion interventions for stable food provision and agricultural inputs.
The stakeholders expressed their views in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Monday.
Mr. Godwin Egbebe, the National Publicity Secretary of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, appreciated the Presidential broadcast and the proposed palliatives for the agriculture sector.
However, he stressed that proper implementation is crucial and called for collaboration with relevant stakeholders, especially real farmers, to ensure effective disbursement.
Egbebe emphasized that their practical knowledge of the sector is essential for successful implementation.
Mr. Akin Alabi, the co-founder of Corporate Farmers International, also welcomed the palliatives but raised concerns about previous policy implementation.
He suggested the establishment of a special office for the disbursement of the palliatives. This office would tailor the policies to ensure they reach smallholder farmers and positively impact stakeholders across the agriculture ecosystem.
Alabi emphasized the need for clear direction and efficient execution of the program plans to avoid repetition with minimal impact.
Mrs. Anthonia Amakwe, chairperson of the Association of Women in Trade and Agriculture, Lagos, emphasized the importance of ensuring that the promised palliatives trickle down to the grassroots.
She expressed hope for proper implementation and the delivery of the palliatives to the hands of local farmers.
Amakwe stressed that if the palliatives reach the grassroots, it will boost productivity and contribute to achieving desired food security for the country.
The stakeholders collectively emphasized the need for effective collaboration, clear direction, and transparent implementation to ensure the success of the N200 billion intervention in supporting the agriculture sector and improving food security in Nigeria.
