Agency warns Nigerians of lightning strikes in May

Nigerians have been warned of an impending increase in lightning strikes in some states in the country come May.

The warning was given by the Nigeria Lightning Safety and Research Center on its Twitter handle of April 15 which had gone viral.

According to the post the most severe lightening strikes will occur in four geo-political zones of the country namely: South South, South East, North Central and North East stressing that the states therein will be most affected.

The agency also warned Nigerians to expect fatalities and fire outbreaks.

The post on the agency`s Twitter handle states:
“Warning! ⚠️Thunderstorms are expected to spread across Nigeria throughout May. The RED states are at higher risk of severe lightning strikes & flooding. Prepare for possible fatalities & fire outbreaks🔥.
Stay informed & stay safe.

Nigeria #Nigerians #LightningSafetyNG”

On the diagram on the post, different areas of the country were marked in different colours while the agency warned that those in red would be most severely affected.
