African Star Apple ( Chrysophyllum albidum) and interesting health benefits

African Star Apple is a forest fruit grown throughout tropical Africa. It is called Agbalumo and Udara in the Southwestern and Southeastern parts of Nigeria respectively. It contains a lot of nutrients and belongs to the family Sapotaceae. The African Star Apple trees bears fruits from December to March yearly.

African Star Apple are rich in water, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre. They equally contain vit. B1, B2, B3, B6, Vit. E and flavonoids.

The antioxidants in African Star Apple helps to eliminate toxins from the body. They fight free radicals which can cause damage to the cells and protects the vital organs from damage.

Anti-inflammatory compounds like flavonoids, alkaloids and phenols helps to prevent inflammation and prevent deadly diseases such as Cancer, diabetes and heart related diseases.

Research shows that extracts from African Star Apple seeds has both antifungal and antibacterial properties. 

Chrysophyllum albidum or African Star Apple fruits is rich in Saponins a compound which cleaves and eliminates bad cholesterol from entering the blood stream and blocking the arteries.
