Business is booming.

African Motor Works Turning Nigerian Roads Green

By Grace Ademulegun

With his ground-breaking business, African Motor Works young entrepreneur, Mustapha Abubakar Gajibo, is bringing about change in Nigeria.

Through his innovative project, Mustapha is working to reform the transport industry with an emphasis on cost and sustainability in order to make Nigeria’s roadways greener.

In an interview with SCENES, Mustapha Abubakar Gajibo states, “The high cost of mobility, cost of energy, and carbon emissions are our main reasons for building electric vehicles.”

The persistent issues with Nigeria’s electricity supply prompted the young business owner to get interested in electrifying the country’s transit choices.

“We went without power for weeks, months, or even a year at a time. That has therefore greatly inspired me to start this business,” Mustapha says.

Large buses, minibuses, and tricycles are among the public transit vehicles produced by the startup company, which produces 200 vehicles per month.

Each car can be fully charged in less than 40 minutes and features a straightforward battery-swapping mechanism.

About 25 people are currently employed by African Motor Works, and the company intends to hire more. The inventor of the electric vehicle claims that the secret to his business’s success is assembling a strong team.

“I don’t refer to them as employees. I refer to them as family. We accomplish any glory together,” Mustapha declares.

In Nigeria, African Motor Works’ reputation is growing, and Mustapha believes his business will serve as an example for other African manufacturers.

One day, he hopes to see his African cars cruising the streets of Beijing, New York and other global capitals.
