AEDC Signs Landmark Power Solution Deal for Abuja

In a significant stride towards providing uninterrupted power solutions, Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) has inked a transformative tripartite agreement, January 18, 2024.

The agreement involves collaborative efforts with Daybreak Power Solutions Limited (Daybreak Power) and The Wood Factory Limited (Wood Factory), marking a pivotal moment in the delivery of grid-connected and solar hybrid power solutions for commercial and industrial customers in Nigeria.

This groundbreaking initiative follows closely on the heels of AEDC’s successful launch of the first interconnected mini-grid power solution for communities in Toto, Nasarawa State, back in November 2023.

Under the terms of this historic agreement, AEDC will provide a reliable 18-hour electricity supply to Wood Factory, a prominent furniture manufacturer, while Daybreak Power will contribute an additional 6 hours of solar-powered electricity.

This collaborative approach, leveraging interconnected power facilities, is poised to deliver seamless electricity supply and substantial value to the customer.

The integrated power solution is projected to result in an estimated 44% reduction in energy costs and an impressive 76% annual decrease in carbon emissions for Wood Factory.

This initiative aligns with AEDC’s overarching strategic objective of redefining the customer experience by ensuring reliable electricity supply to both existing and new customers, including those who have been historically underserved.

As part of the ongoing transformation, AEDC’s management is steadfastly positioning the company as a clear leader among the power distribution companies (DisCos) in Nigeria.

Christopher Ezeafulukwe, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of AEDC, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We are excited about the great opportunities that the transformation and turnaround of AEDC is giving us to serve our customers, both new and existing, in more delightful ways.”

Ezeafulukwe emphasized the project’s focus on serving industrial and commercial entities, solidifying AEDC’s commitment to cater to all customer segments within its network effectively.

The Managing Director highlighted that this initiative builds upon AEDC’s track record of implementing integrated power solutions to serve communities previously without access to electricity.

AEDC’s partnership with the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and the support from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) further underscores the company’s commitment to exploring diversified energy sources to enhance its service delivery.

Jasper Graf von Hardenberg, CEO of Daystar Power, echoed the sentiments of collaboration, stating, “Working together with DisCos, we can provide reliable and affordable power to Nigerian businesses which will save on energy costs to reinvest in their operations. Our partnership with AEDC supports this position.”

Mohamed Akar, Director and General Manager of The Wood Factory, expressed excitement about transitioning from self-generated power to the integrated solution provided by AEDC and Daybreak, stating, “We believe that the future of our business has become brighter with this new partnership with AEDC and Daybreak.”

This landmark agreement signifies not only AEDC’s commitment to innovation but also its readiness to enter into strategic partnerships that contribute significantly to the Nigerian electricity market.

AEDC remains dedicated to ensuring reliable, safe, and sustainable electricity delivery to its diverse customers, contributing to the growth and development of Nigeria’s energy sector.
