Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed sympathy to the residents of Iwo following the devastating flood that struck the town after prolonged rainfall last Friday.
He assured affected communities of the government’s commitment to relief efforts and long-term flood prevention.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor described the damage as “monumental” and acknowledged the significant personal losses suffered by residents.
He pledged that the state government would take stock of the situation and provide appropriate support to victims.
Adeleke highlighted previous measures taken by his administration to prevent flooding, including dredging of the Aiba waterways and expanding water channels.
He announced that additional resources have been mobilized for further channelisation in Iwo and surrounding areas.
The governor also directed the Commissioner for Environment to conduct an on-the-spot assessment and recommend sustainable solutions to prevent future occurrences.
He called on residents to support government efforts by avoiding the indiscriminate dumping of waste in drainage channels, emphasizing collective responsibility in tackling environmental challenges.
