The Adamawa State Government has begun distributing more than ₦1 billion in flood relief funds to over 5,000 households affected by the 2025 flooding in Yola South Local Government Area.
Governor Umaru Fintiri, who flagged off the exercise in Yola, said the assistance targets victims based on the severity of damage suffered.
According to him, mildly affected households will receive ₦135,000, those moderately affected ₦280,000, while severely impacted families will get ₦550,000 each.
The distribution ceremony, held at Aliyu Mustapha College, was attended by senior government officials, key stakeholders and members of the affected communities.
Fintiri explained that beneficiaries were carefully classified into three categories following an assessment of losses caused by the flood.
He warned residents against building on waterways, stressing that the government would take firm action against such practices to prevent future disasters.
The governor also urged people living in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer locations, assuring them of continued government support.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Humanitarian Services, Bello Hamman Diram, praised the governor for the prompt intervention.
He said an assessment committee identified 5,357 affected households in Yola South, describing the relief effort as timely and impactful.
