ABS, Pacific International Lines Seal Pact to Advance Maritime Technology, Sustainability

By Abbas Nazil
ABS and Pacific International Lines (PIL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Singapore Maritime Week to collaborate on maritime technology, sustainability, and safety management.
This partnership establishes a framework for the two organizations to share technical expertise, explore innovative technologies, and enhance maritime operations.
Through this agreement, ABS and PIL are to focus on improving operational efficiency, reducing emissions, and strengthening safety management.
ABS is to leverage its expertise in maritime compliance and cutting-edge technologies to support PIL’s goals, ensuring the shipping company stays ahead of regulatory requirements while optimizing fleet performance.
The collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices within the maritime industry, reflecting a shared commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation.
One of the key areas of focus is sustainability, with ABS specialists working alongside PIL to develop an energy-efficiency strategy.
This is expected to involve techno-economic studies and practical decarbonization measures designed to enhance environmental performance.
By integrating advanced modeling and simulation from the ABS Technology and Singapore Innovation Research Center, PIL will be able to improve its vessel designs and retrofit existing ships to align with global sustainability standards.
Safety remains a priority in this partnership. ABS will provide guidance to PIL on improving Port State Control performance and aligning safety management systems with international best practices.
The goal is to ensure compliance with evolving regulations while maintaining high safety standards across PIL’s operations.
Christopher J. Wiernicki, Chairman and CEO of ABS, emphasized the importance of strategic industry collaborations in driving meaningful progress.
“To make meaningful progress in this era of rapid change, we need strategic industry collaborations like this one with PIL.
We look forward to capitalizing on our unique strengths and capabilities in maritime compliance and cutting-edge technologies to advance safety, emissions reduction, and operational efficiency,” he stated.
Lars Kastrup, CEO of PIL, highlighted the significance of this partnership in future-proofing the company’s fleet.
“This MOU reinforces our commitment and supports our plans to future-proof our fleet. Partnering with ABS allows us to leverage world-class expertise to drive innovation, advance decarbonization, and enhance safety management,” he said.
The agreement will enable PIL to explore emerging maritime technologies, foster technical knowledge exchange, and enhance the resilience and competitiveness of its fleet.
With four new vessels recently delivered and another 14 on order, PIL is positioned to benefit significantly from this collaboration, ensuring long-term sustainability and operational excellence in an evolving maritime landscape.
