Abakaliki Rice Mill Owners Appeal for Solar Power to Curb Thieves
The Abakaliki Rice Mill Owners Association has made an appeal to Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, seeking his support in providing solar power to combat the activities of thieves in the industry.
Mr. Linus Obeji, Chairman of the Industry, spoke to journalists on Saturday, emphasizing the need for steady light to illuminate the areas, particularly during nighttime, thus bolstering security measures.
Although the issue of thieves has seen a decline, Obeji stressed the importance of installing solar lights in strategic corners at night to further prevent any potential security breaches.
Additionally, Obeji called on the Governor to implement a program that would attract foreign investors to the Mill site, promoting economic growth and development.
The Chairman expressed gratitude to the Governor for his prompt intervention in resolving the crisis that arose due to fraudulent activities by certain touts, who were enforcing the use of non-approved rice bags by millers.
“We appreciate His Excellency, Gov. Francis Nwifuru, for his immediate intervention on the issue of the rice mill. The Governor is the architect of the current peace we are enjoying in Abakaliki rice mill. We are using this opportunity to express our gratitude for his quick action in restoring peace for us,” said Obeji, praising the Governor’s commitment to fairness, truth, and justice for the association members.
Obeji also highlighted some of his achievements as the Chairman of the Mill, which included providing essential amenities like a functional police station and constructing toilets, among other improvements.
Chief Sunday Oketa, the Traditional Ruler of Ugwachara Nkaleke, an autonomous community in Ebonyi and a member of the Rice Mill Association, echoed the sentiments of gratitude towards the Governor for bringing about peace in the mill.
He called for unity among the association members to ensure sufficient food production for the people.
