Egypt plans to bring 3,100 megawatts of new solar and wind power online by 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen the national electricity grid and meet rising demand, particularly during the summer, the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has said.
A government official told Al Arabiya that around 2,500 megawatts of renewable energy capacity will be connected to the national grid before the upcoming summer season.
The additions are intended to ease pressure on the grid and improve supply stability during periods of peak consumption.
The remaining 600 megawatts are expected to be added by the end of the year through a series of solar and wind projects under development in Upper Egypt, Zafarana and the Gulf of Suez concession areas.
According to the official, solar power will make up the largest share of the new capacity, accounting for about 2,200 megawatts, while wind farms currently under construction are expected to contribute around 900 megawatts.
