The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining collaboration with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to deliver quality infrastructure that will stand the test of time.
The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, expressed this commitment in Abuja during the investiture of Engr. Alimasuya Rabiu as the 35th President of the NSE at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa.
Prof. Utsev said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recognises the NSE as a critical stakeholder in nation building, noting that many engineers have been appointed to head key technical ministries, agencies and departments, where they are making significant contributions, including himself.
He disclosed that the Federal Government has engaged competent engineers for the rehabilitation and upgrade of the Alau Dam in Borno State, as well as other strategic water and road infrastructure projects across the country, in recognition of the profession’s role in national development.
The minister congratulated Engr. Rabiu on his emergence as NSE president and expressed confidence in his capacity to lead the society, given his experience as a three-time vice president of the NSE and his service to the nation.
He also commended women engineers for their contributions and praised the immediate past president, Engr. Aina Oguntala, for becoming the first female president of the society.
Prof. Utsev urged the NSE to continue deploying its professional expertise in support of the current administration’s efforts to improve the nation’s infrastructure and economic fortunes.
In his acceptance speech, Engr. Rabiu pledged that his administration would lead with integrity, restore institutional relevance and reposition the NSE as a centre of excellence locally and internationally.
The event featured goodwill messages from the immediate past president of the NSE and other eminent Nigerians.
