Kaduna targets food security, jobs with $200m integrated poultry investment

Kaduna State is positioning itself at the centre of Nigeria’s livestock and food security drive with the launch of a $200 million integrated poultry development project.

Governor Uba Sani said the project is designed to strengthen domestic egg and poultry production while reducing reliance on imports.

He spoke on Thursday during a strategic meeting with the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, ahead of the project’s formal groundbreaking.

According to Sani, the poultry initiative is projected to generate more than $450 million in annual revenue and create over 350,000 direct and indirect jobs across the value chain.

The governor said Kaduna was selected to lead the initiative due to its agricultural potential and existing infrastructure.

He acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the project and aligning it with the federal government’s livestock and food systems reform agenda.

Sani disclosed that the state government finalised agreements with the Chinese government during an official visit to Beijing in December 2025.

He said the agreements laid the foundation for technical support, investment flow, and large-scale poultry operations in the state.

The governor explained that his visit to CP Foods Layers and Eggs Ltd in China provided practical insight into industrial poultry production.

He noted that the company’s daily output of nearly three million eggs demonstrated the economic potential of fully integrated poultry systems.

Sani said the Kaduna project will replicate a similar value-chain approach, covering production, processing, packaging, and distribution.

He added that the partnership with Chinese investors is expected to transform poultry farming into a major agribusiness driver in Kaduna State.
