India’s KP Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Botswana to invest in large-scale renewable energy projects, marking a significant step in international clean energy collaboration.

The partnership targets the development of renewable energy generation, energy storage, and transmission infrastructure to support Botswana’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2030.

The agreement involves KP Group companies including KPI Green Energy Limited, KP Energy Limited, and KP Green Engineering Limited, alongside Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy.

Under the MoU, the total investment is estimated at USD 4 billion, equivalent to INR 36,000 crore, aimed at creating nearly five gigawatts of renewable energy capacity.

The projects will include the construction and upgrading of high-voltage transmission infrastructure within Botswana and regional interconnections to improve energy reliability and security.

As part of the collaboration, KP Group will provide 30 scholarships annually to Botswana citizens to support education and skills development in renewable energy, engineering, sustainability, and allied fields.

The scholarship initiative is intended to build local capabilities, encourage knowledge transfer, and strengthen long-term workforce development in Botswana’s clean energy sector.

The MoU signing coincided with the virtual inauguration of KP Green Engineering’s state-of-the-art fabrication and galvanizing facility at Matar, Gujarat, by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi.

The new facility will add over 2.94 lakh metric tonnes of annual production capacity, enhancing KP Group’s manufacturing capabilities for large-scale renewable energy and transmission projects.

Botswana’s Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, said the partnership would accelerate the deployment of clean energy while providing long-term economic and environmental benefits.

Dr. Faruk G. Patel, founding promoter of KP Group, emphasized that the MoU reflects a shared vision to unlock Botswana’s renewable potential and contribute meaningfully to its net-zero ambitions.

Currently, KP Group has approximately six gigawatts of renewable energy capacity in India and is working toward a 10-gigawatt target by 2030, with active initiatives in green hydrogen, energy storage, and advanced solar solutions.

The agreement represents a major milestone in bilateral cooperation between India and Botswana in renewable energy development and demonstrates KP Group’s commitment to international clean energy expansion.

Officials indicated that the collaboration will strengthen energy infrastructure, enhance local technical expertise, and foster sustainable development within Botswana.

This investment is expected to support Botswana’s transition to a low-carbon economy while advancing KP Group’s global renewable energy objectives.

The partnership also underscores the importance of combining technological innovation, human resource development, and international cooperation to achieve sustainable energy goals.

By linking large-scale infrastructure projects with education and training, KP Group aims to create a sustainable model for renewable energy deployment across Africa.

The initiative highlights the growing role of private-sector investment in supporting national climate targets and regional energy security strategies.

KP Group’s expansion into Botswana is part of a broader strategy to drive clean energy adoption, reduce carbon emissions, and foster economic growth in emerging markets.

The MoU reflects both governments’ commitment to promoting renewable energy, strengthening bilateral ties, and addressing global climate challenges through collaborative action.

Experts noted that the projects could position Botswana as a regional leader in renewable energy generation while encouraging further foreign investment in sustainable infrastructure.
