AFAN charts path for youth-led, innovation-driven agriculture in Nigeria

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has unveiled plans to empower youth, expand access to modern farming tools, and drive innovation across the nation’s agricultural sector.

The association’s president, Muhammad Magaji, speaking at his inauguration at the 2025 National Agricultural Showground in Nasarawa State, pledged to create platforms for collaboration and networking to boost food production, security, and farmer incomes.

He commended the President Bola Tinubu administration for its focus on agriculture and called on Nigerian farmers to unite under a single, strong association to maximize impact.

Magaji said AFAN will work closely with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to advance policies, promote investment, and enhance food security nationwide.

The new AFAN National Youth Leader, Chief Tunde Adeyemi, said young farmers are at the heart of Nigeria’s agricultural transformation, adding that the sector must evolve into a hub of prosperity, innovation, and national pride.

Adeyemi outlined plans to expand training opportunities, provide access to finance, and introduce modern technologies, including mechanization, drones, irrigation systems, and digital farming tools.

He also assured that structures would be established in all states and local government areas to amplify the voices of young farmers and enable their active participation in shaping Nigeria’s agricultural future.

AFAN’s immediate past president, Kabiru Ibrahim, expressed confidence in Magaji and the new National Executive Council (NEC) to reposition the association for greater productivity and national impact.

The NEC, elected at the association’s congress, comprises 27 members representing arable crops, livestock, fisheries, horticulture, roots and tubers, industrial crops, women, youth, and various administrative functions.

Through this initiative, AFAN aims to redefine Nigerian agriculture as a modern, innovation-driven sector powered by skilled youth, strategic investments, and collaborative action.
