Kano tasks sand quarry operators on environmental protection

By Abdullahi Lukman

The Kano State Government has cautioned sand quarry operators against encroaching on bridges and water board facilities, emphasizing adherence to designated quarrying boundaries along rivers.

The warning came during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Union of Tipper and Quarry Supply Employers of Nigeria (UTSQEN) to the Ministry of Mineral Resources.

Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Hamza Safiyanu, urged operators to collaborate with government revenue agencies while prioritizing environmental protection, assuring them of the ministry’s full support.

Alhaji Isa Jafar Kofar Naisa, newly elected UTSQEN chairman, said the visit aimed to foster a productive relationship with the ministry and pledged strict compliance with environmental protection laws.
