Gov Ododo prioritises environment issues to combat erosion menace

The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling flooding and erosion through strategic infrastructure projects aimed at providing long-term ecological solutions.
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, stated in Lokoja on Saturday that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration is focused on deploying infrastructure that ensures safety, resilience, and improved living conditions.
He highlighted that new drainage systems in communities such as Etahi, Omigbo, and Olubojo in Ankpa have already shown positive results by efficiently managing rainwater and minimizing flood risks.
Fanwo noted the government is also leveraging the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project to bolster flood control efforts and reclaim ecologically damaged land.
He described Kogi ACReSAL, led by Barr. Ladi Jatto, as a transformative platform driving the administration’s sustainability agenda.
He emphasized that Kogi is shifting from reactive measures to proactive strategies in addressing environmental issues.
This comes in response to the severe 2024 flood, which submerged thousands of homes and displaced over one million residents across nine local government areas.
