CAMIC Plans Campaign on E-waste Management Across Africa

Environment advocacy body, Climate Africa Media Initiative Center (CAMIC) has revealed plans mount a campaign to promote sustainable practices in recycling and reusing e-waste across Africa.

The body also noted its renewed commitment to tackling E-waste, which it said is one of the fastest-growing environmental challenges.

According to the body, with the rapid advancement of technology, discarded electronic devices are becoming a significant source of environmental degradation, containing hazardous materials that threaten ecosystems and human health if not managed responsibly.

CAMIC, in a statement issued by its Chief Growth Officer, Pius Alabi, in Abuja, Thursday, December 12, said: “Recognizing this critical issue, CAMIC is launching an advocacy campaign to promote sustainable practices in recycling and reusing e-waste across Africa.”

It continued: “This initiative underscores the importance of integrating effective e-waste management solutions into national waste management strategies.”

The body highlighted the objectives of the campaign to include awareness and education, promotion of healthy recycling habits, encouraging reuse, and policy advocacy.

“We urge individuals, businesses, and governments to take immediate steps to responsibly manage e-waste,” it said, maintaining, “By embracing a culture of recycling and reuse, we can mitigate environmental risks, conserve natural resources, and create green jobs.”

The body called on all stakeholders to enlist in the proposed campaign, announcing that it we would host workshops, launch media campaigns, and collaborate with recycling firms to create accessible e-waste collection points.
