Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State oversaw the distribution of food aid to over 52,500 households across seven local government areas in Southern Borno, an event held at the Biu township stadium on Sunday.
Expressing the government’s commitment to supporting the vulnerable segments of society, Governor Zulum emphasized that the relief distribution aimed to assist 52,500 families in Southern Borno.
The benefiting local government areas include Biu, Shani, Chibok, Askira-Uba, Kwaya Kusar, Bayo, and Hawul.
Addressing the historical lack of consistent food distribution in Southern Borno, Governor Zulum acknowledged the misconception that the area was less affected by insurgency.

However, in light of recent spikes in food prices, the government intervened to provide essential aid to the affected population.
Each household received a 25kg bag of rice and a 25kg bag of maize, with 17,500 families in Biu local government area, 5,000 families in Shani, Bayo, Kwaya Kusar, and Hawul, and 7,500 families in Askira-Uba and Chibok benefiting from the initiative spearheaded by Governor Zulum.
In addition to the food aid distribution, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum allocated over N100 million to support 2,000 young people and women farmers in cultivating their fields.
Each beneficiary will receive a grant of N50,000 to enhance their agricultural activities, reflecting the government’s multifaceted approach to addressing food security challenges in the region.
Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of this funding in bolstering agricultural endeavors, expressing optimism that it would significantly contribute to enhancing agricultural productivity and livelihoods in Borno State.
