Lagos Confiscate 90kg Banned Styrofoam Container

Enforcement officers of Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources in conjunction with their counterparts from LAGESC/KAI, LAWMA police on Tuesday confiscated 90.5kg packs of the banned Styrofoam plastics in shops, stores and outlets in Lagos.

Following the directives of the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, to commence enforcement of the ban on the product, the enforcement officers stormed markets in Agege, Mushin and Oshodi and mopped up the banned plastic container.

On Monday, the Commissioner appealed to traders across markets in the state to desist from trading in the banned Styrofoam products and also warned them to stop littering their markets with waste.

He reiterated the government commitment to the ban on Styrofoam plastic pack and warned them from selling on railway lines.

In the meantime, members of the Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria (DIBAN), on Tuesday, staged a protest against against the ban on sachet alcoholic drinks in front of NAFDAC Lagos office, lsolo, Lagos.

The protest was staged following commencement of enforcement of banned alcoholic beverages in sachet, and glass bottles of 200ml, and below. Members of the association were seen with placards with various inscriptions among which are: “Let poor Nigerians breathe”, “ Let beverage workers breathe.”

The protesting distillers and their employees threatened to increase the temporary of their protest across NAFDAC offices nationwide, if the agency refuses to reverse its decision on sachet alcoholic drinks.
