The event brought together key stakeholders to address challenges faced by smallholder farmers and explore pathways toward sustainable agribusiness.
The theme of the dialogue session was “Turning Challenges into Opportunities: Establishing Sustainable Strategies and Pathways for Smallholder Farmers in the Agrifood System.”
This underscored BATNF’s dedication to supporting agribusiness and promoting sustainable agriculture in Nigeria.
In her opening remarks, Ololade Johnson-Agiri, Executive Director of BATNF, emphasized the Foundation’s unwavering commitment since its establishment in 2002.

Professor Olusola Kehinde, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), delivered a keynote address.
He commended BATNF for its focus on smallholder farmers’ success and acknowledged the challenges that must be overcome to achieve sustainable agriculture.
“This dialogue will proffer a more robust and adaptable strategy to address the challenges facing smallholder farmers,” Professor Kehinde said.
Nneka Okekearu, Director of the Enterprise Development Centre, Pan-Atlantic University, encouraged stakeholders to recognize the pivotal role of smallholder farmers.
“Today’s discussions are not mere conversations; they are seeds of change that, when planted and nurtured, will grow into pathways leading our farmers to sustainable success,” she emphasized.
The dialogue session featured plenary sessions, breakout discussions, and fireside chats with renowned experts. Topics included “The Power of Collaboration: Climate Change and Agrifood System Partnership” and “Empowering Youths: Tech-Driven Agricultural Opportunities.”
Participants, including government representatives, private sector stakeholders, and experts, explored strategies to drive the smallholder farming sector forward.
