Green habitat: Teyliom and Duo Real Lead the Way with Eco-Friendly Edge-Certified Buildings

In a groundbreaking move, Teyliom Properties and Duo Real Estate have etched their names into Dakar’s urban legacy, not through towering structures of steel and glass, but through a commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness.

Teyliom, recognized for its prowess in finance, industry, energy, logistics, and telecommunications, has ventured into a new realm – eco-friendly construction. In a nod to the World Bank’s 2021 training program, Teyliom Properties has earned the prestigious Edge label (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiency) from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group.

This accolade, supported by the European Investment Bank (EIB), showcases the company’s dedication to incorporating climate and environmental considerations in the construction of six avant-garde buildings in Dakar.

Not to be outdone, Duo Real Estate has also clinched the Edge certification, setting a remarkable benchmark with a 40-unit flat block. This intelligent marvel harnesses the power of solar energy and embraces home automation, allowing residents to seamlessly manage their living spaces. Beyond the sleek facade, this technological integration results in a reduction of over 220 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, as noted by the IFC.

“This initiative, spearheaded by the Edge program, goes beyond architectural aesthetics. It’s a commitment to a sustainable future,” emphasizes Dennis Papa Odenyi Quansah, who coordinates the Edge program in West Africa.

The initiative extends its influence to the installation of low-flow taps, innovative wastewater management systems, and the use of environmentally friendly cements. By aligning with the Paris Climate Agreement’s vision of carbon-neutral infrastructure, Senegal takes a significant stride toward environmental responsibility.

The Senegalese Ministry of Urban Planning, Housing, and Public Hygiene, driven by the directives on energy efficiency measures adopted in June 2020 by the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), is poised to leverage these innovative approaches. In transforming Dakar’s skyline, Teyliom and Duo Real not only showcase architectural ingenuity but exemplify a blueprint for a sustainable urban future.

Moreover, these eco-friendly buildings are not just symbols of progress; they are beacons of social responsibility. Both Teyliom and Duo Real have prioritized local employment and skill development, ensuring that the construction boom benefits the communities it touches.

As these structures rise into the sky, they stand as tangible proof that progress need not come at the cost of the environment. Dakar’s residents are not merely witnessing the evolution of their skyline; they are part of a movement that signifies a harmonious coexistence between modernity and nature.

The Edge-certified buildings of Teyliom and Duo Real are not just structures; they are the foundation stones of a greener, smarter, and more sustainable urban tomorrow.
