Delegates from 195 member governments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have convened in Istanbul for the 60th Plenary Session, marking the commencement of the seventh assessment cycle.
The week-long session, which began on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, aims to delineate the program of work, outlining the nature and quantity of scientific reports to be undertaken in this pivotal cycle.

Of significant note, the Panel had previously committed to producing a special report on climate change and cities, along with a methodology report on short-lived climate forcers.
The opening ceremony, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. local time in Istanbul, promises addresses from esteemed figures, including IPCC Chair Jim Skea, Türkiye’s Minister of Environment, Urbanisation, and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki, as well as high-ranking representatives from prominent global organizations.
