Kwara ACReSAL Quarterly Meeting Stresses Agro-Climatic Resilience Efforts

The Ministry of Environment headquarters in Ilorin played host to the recent quarterly meeting of the Kwara Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) State Steering and Technical Committees.

The meeting, overseen by Mallam Shehu Ndanusa Usman, the Commissioner for Environment and Chairman of the ACReSAL Project in the State, underscored the importance of fostering a robust working relationship between the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) and committee members.

This collaboration is seen as a crucial step towards ensuring the smooth and efficient implementation of the project in the state.

During the meeting, Mallam Ndanusa stressed that it provided an ideal platform for the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) and committee members to engage, exchange updates on project activities, assess their progress, and garner insightful contributions aimed at realizing the project’s goals.

Mallam Ndanusa also lauded the unwavering commitment of the Kwara State Government, led by His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to support the ACReSAL project.

He expressed gratitude for the crucial support provided by the World Bank and the Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU) in overcoming obstacles and ensuring the project’s success.

The ACReSAL project, which has navigated various challenges, is now poised to make a substantial and positive impact on the state’s communities.

In the Technical session, Hajia Afusat Ibrahim, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Chairman of the State Technical Committee of ACReSAL, commended the state government and the dedicated staff of the Kwara ACReSAL project for their unwavering dedication, commitment, and teamwork. She urged them to maintain their steadfastness and continue contributing logical ideas to drive the project towards achieving its objectives.

Hajia Ibrahim highlighted the multi-sectoral nature of ACReSAL, emphasizing that it involves the Ministries of Environment, Agriculture, and Water Resources. The project aims to bring significant benefits to various communities in the state.

The Acting Project Coordinator, Alhaji Shamsideen Aregbe, expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, for his pivotal role in nurturing and creating a conducive environment for the project’s success.

Alhaji Aregbe provided updates on several project activities, including the relocation of the ACReSAL SPIU to a permanent office, the acquisition and delivery of GIS and ICT equipment, procurement of official vehicles, and the development of the project work plan.

Alhaji Aregbe highlighted the importance of aligning with the three key MDAs (Ministries, Departments, and Agencies) for effective input, as specified in the project guidelines, before seeking final clearance from the Federal Project Management Unit and the World Bank.

The meeting witnessed the participation of key stakeholders, including the Co-Chairman, Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Lade, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Olorukoba, who represented the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development.

Additionally, representatives from the Ministries of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Water Resources, and Environment, along with staff from the SPMU, were actively involved.
