Green Globe Initiative, a youth-led environmental organisation, started a march to raise awareness on climate change and environmental sustainability.
The Nigerian Climate Awareness March was led in Ilorin on Friday, by Mr. Akintola Akinyemi, the founder of the Green Globe Initiative.
Akinyemi issued a warning against the careless disposal of trash in order to prevent the obstruction of waterways.
He claimed that the march was a nationwide event that was simultaneously occurring in 15 states, describing it as a worldwide event.
We need to be attentive to our environment and refrain from indiscriminate disposal of trash. “This is the moment to be mindful of our environment and be passionate about sanitation and cleanliness in view of the climate change threats.

According to Akinyemi, 32 out of 36 states in Nigeria faced significant flooding in 2022, necessitating the immediate implementation of preventative measures. The founder issued a warning that erosion and flood damage people’s lives, property, and commercial enterprises.
He urged all levels of government to establish a strict policy to compel public collaboration and pushed for severe penalties and fines for those who violated the law and threatened human life.
Government should give public safety and a secure environment first priority. Be strict with infringers and make sure that workable regulations are in place, Akinyemi emphasised.
The awareness march started at the “Soludero Park” of the post office and passed through some of Ilorin’s busiest neighbourhoods, including CBN, Muritala, Yoruba Road, Challenge, Unity Road, and Maraba.
Representatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), University of Ilorin, Kwara Polytechnic, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, and other organisations took part in the awareness march.
