Lagos Govt Sets Ambitious Goal to Eliminate Food Wastage by 2024

In a significant move towards enhancing food security and reducing food wastage, the Lagos State Government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled its mission to eliminate food wastage in the state by the year 2024.

This commitment was highlighted during the swearing-in ceremony of 37 commissioners and special advisers, where Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the top priority of ensuring food security for residents during his second term in office.

The cornerstone of this initiative is the establishment of the Lagos Food Security and Central Logistics Park in Ketu-Ereyun, near Epe, which is slated for completion by 2024.

This groundbreaking project aims to significantly reduce or completely eradicate the wastage of perishable food items. It also seeks to enhance processing and packaging processes while enforcing stringent quality standards.

Moreover, the project is expected to boost local farmers’ income through increased revenue opportunities.

In addition to the food security drive, the Lagos State Government has expanded its Governance Agenda to “T.H.E.M.E.S+,” incorporating Social Inclusion, Gender Equality, and Youth Development into all its programs.

This strategic shift underscores the government’s dedication to building a more equitable society, ensuring that no one is left behind on the path to a Greater Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu further highlighted the ongoing legacy projects in the domains of transportation, health, and agriculture.

These projects are set to create new economic and developmental prospects for the state’s residents.

The commencement of operations of the Blue Line Rail Service is especially noteworthy, representing a significant milestone in Lagos’s journey towards becoming a modern and well-connected city.
