Kenya’s Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry has announced its readiness to host the Africa Climate Summit (ACS), scheduled to take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre from the 4th to the 6th of September.
According to the Ministry, the Summit will provide Africa with an opportunity to steer global climate action and lead the world towards decarbonization on a path of green growth.
“We eagerly anticipate the upcoming Africa Climate Summit as a platform to showcase Kenya’s substantial potential for green growth and to advocate for increased global investment in our nation’s e-mobility, green infrastructure, and biofuels projects,” stated Soipan Tuya, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.
Furthermore, Tuya emphasized the vital role of media engagement in the success of the Africa Climate Summit due to its crucial function in informing, educating, and disseminating reliable information about complex subjects like climate change.
As part of their commitment to climate action, Tuya highlighted that the country has prioritized wetland rehabilitation as a key element of Kenya’s 10-year ecosystem restoration agenda.
The ACS will place a strong emphasis on green growth and climate finance solutions for both Africa and the world. It will focus on abundant renewable energy sources, sustainable agriculture, green transition minerals, and Africa’s substantial Carbon Sinks, which present significant global solutions to the ongoing climate crisis.
“In addition to consolidating global climate action around climate financing and climate-positive development, Africa aims to solidify its stance on climate change through the upcoming ACS. The Summit will serve as a platform to demonstrate Africa’s considerable potential for climate action in specialized sectors and to attract new partnerships in green growth, including renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and critical minerals,” Tuya elaborated.
