Kano Govt begins demolition of illegal structures on public land

The demolition of illegal buildings on public lands has been initiated by Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State.

The first building to be demolished was a three-story structure with 90 shops, located on Racecourse by Filing Sukuwa in Nasarawa GRA.

The demolition took place at around 2:00 am local time on Saturday, with the governor personally leading the exercise.

The Kano State Police Commissioner, Muhammed Gumel, was also present during the demolition.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had made a commitment to demolish buildings on public properties in the state after being declared the governor-elect on March 18th.

This recent demolition marks the first action taken since assuming office on Monday, May 29th. Additionally, developers in the Hajj camp area were issued an order to halt construction.

In another swift action, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the establishment of mobile courts to ensure the prompt prosecution of phone snatchers in Kano State.

These mobile courts will work in collaboration with the Special Joint Task Force to try individuals caught engaging in such activities.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that major streets in the metropolis have been illuminated after eight years of darkness as the street lamps were turned on again.

This measure is part of the new administration’s efforts to combat robbery, phone snatching, and other criminal activities, particularly in metropolitan Kano. He stated that the ongoing initiative will continue until every part of the state is free from the darkness that provides cover for criminals and political thugs.
