The parliamentarians of the 9th National Assembly House of Representatives have resolved that the objective of the event was to create a high level awareness amongst parliamentarians on the importance, urgency and benefits of investing in human capital development in Nigerian youth to fast track the demographic transition in Nigeria.
A communique presented from the parliamentary summit on fast tracking the demographic transition in Nigeria held on November 21 2022.
Under the leadership of Honorable speaker, Femi GbajaBiamila, commander of the Federal Republic.
The Summit aimed to increase the understanding of Parliamentarians on demographic dividend and to secure the support for implementation of relevant policies, actions and interventions that will create the required enabling environment for a democratic transition to further to the above.
Following the participants at the summit committed to following the next steps of actions:
“To ensure continued and sustained engagement with the office of the Right Honorable speaker among the relevant committees of the House of Representatives on fast tracking the demographic transition in Nigeria and related matters to which we commit to the following actions in the legislative agenda of the House of Representatives.

” Prioritization of financing for identified human capital development interventions aimed at appropriation of basic primary education and basic primary health care, including family planning.

” expansion of financing of t vet to close the mismatch between labor demands and supply and skill shortages.
“In this respect. Also having legislative action to prioritize the creation of favorable policy, environment and incentives for women, economic empowerment and women financial inclusion and for female workers.
“To find employment in the formal sector, we commit to protect our girls from harmful practices, such as child marriages, gender based violence, etc. that jeopardize their lives and potential future.
“To Support investment in research, development and data generation to provide evidence for informed knowledge in research development.
“To drive interventions and programming and funding.
“We propose that all the above be captured as an additional heading titled, fast tracking demographic transition in Nigeria in the legislative agenda of the 10th Legislative Assembly.
