Tidal waves destroy homes in coast of Ghana

By Omotayo Edubi

Tidal waves has destroyed about eight houses along the beach of Brenu Akyinim in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem Municipality of the Central Region in Ghana, rendering over 40 people homeless on Sunday.

Other communities including Ayensudo were also affected by the high tide.

Affected residents have called on the government to attend to their plight by constructing a sea defense wall for the affected communities.

Isaac Quayson, the Assembly Member for Ayensudo Electoral Area, said: “For the past few days, the residents of Brenu Akyinim that live closer to the sea have never slept. This is because there has been a greater and maximum increase of the tidal waves,” he said.

Some communities in the Volta Region also struggled with tidal waves flooding over the weekend.

About 20 households were stranded at Agavedzi and some adjoining communities in the Ketu South Municipality due to the flooding.
