UK children are taking their inspiration from female change‐makers ‐ such as Greta Thunberg and Michelle Obama ‐ over more mainstream 21 st ‐century role models like the Kardashians and other reality TV stars, according to new research from children’s biography series ‘Little People, BIG DREAMS’, released in line with International Day of the Girl.
The survey of 1,000 UK children aged 6‐16, found that Greta Thunberg is inspiring a new generation of environmentally conscious thinkers, with just over one‐fifth (21%) of respondents citing her as the female figure they look up to the most.

Admired alongside Ms Thunberg is the former First Lady Michelle Obama, as well as key historical figures Marie Curie, Florence Nightingale and Emmeline Pankhurst.
A mere 9% of respondents held up the Kardashians as figures they admire, and even less cited the likes of the Made in Chelsea (5%) and The Only Way is Essex (6%) casts as influences on their lives.
Half (50%) of all respondents agree they feel inspired by female changemakers such as Malala, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Kamala Harris and Jacinda Ardern.
