Water Day: Plateau sets 2023 to end open defecation

By Nneka Nwogwugwu

The Plateau Commissioner of Water Resources and Energy, Mr. Sa’ad Bello, has said that the state will be declared Open Defecation Free by 2023.

Bello said this in a broadcast to commemorate the 2021 World Water Day on Monday in Jos.

According to him, the state has developed a road map and has put in place strategies toward the actualisation of the set objective.

Bello said the state had started providing toilets in public places such as markets, schools, motor parks and worship centres to enable residents to stop defecating in the open.

The commissioner also called on residents of the state to support government efforts in this regard by constructing toilets in their homes.
