21 arrested, to be prosecuted over illegal dumping of refuse

Members of the taskforce on Environment in Delta State on Monday swooped on defaulters who had been dumping refuse indiscriminately.

The defaulters numbering over 21, were arrested in Uvwie and Asaba environs at the weekend and handed over to the police after they admitted their evil activities.

Investigation revealed that emptied pure water among others is indiscriminately dumped at every nook and cranny in the state, especially in Asaba and its environs.

But the task force in collaboration with Waste Management Board and Private Service Provider ( PSPS) said it has concluded plans for operation show PSP receipt by residents of Asaba and its environs including companies and organizations, adding that the state in recent times had been littered with tissue papers among others.

The chairman of the task force, Mr. Sylvester Oromoni who spoke to journalists in Asaba said that the task force members will arrest nonchalant residents of Asaba and its environs adding that those behind the nefarious activities would be penalized during the operations which would last for days.

He reiterated that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration was doing its best to keep the state clean adding that indiscriminate refuse dumps won’t be tolerated henceforth, noting that defaulters would be charged to court.
