Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri has emphasised the need for African countries to unite in the fight against energy poverty. According to Lokpobiri, by working together, African countries can overcome energy poverty, drive economic growth, and improve the lives of millions of their people. He emphasised that by pooling resources, African countries can invest in large-scale energy projects, reducing costs and increasing efficiency.

Lokpobiri spoke at the opening ceremony of the Nigerian Pavilion, hosted by the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), at the ongoing Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas, U.S. with the theme “Africa’s Energy Renaissance: Leveraging Innovation and Natural Gas for Sustainable Development”.

He also pointed out that the conference is a platform for Nigeria, and by extension, Africa to showcase its vast potential in the energy sector. He informed that the Africa Petroleum Producers Organisation (APPO) is a strategic entity established to devise shared solutions for the continent’s energy challenges, adding that APPO is in the process of establishing the African Energy Bank to bridge funding gaps and ultimately free the continent from energy poverty.

“This is an opportunity to let you know that your concerns are gradually being addressed. As members of APPO, we are in partnership with Afrexim Bank, which during our last meeting disclosed that it has an exposure of nearly $14 billion.

“This amount, along with an additional $5 billion as the initial take-off capital, will be transferred to the African Energy Bank—bringing the total to over $19 billion,” the Minister said.

He added that the African Energy Bank is scheduled to begin operations within the current quarter and called on African nations to repatriate investments held overseas and channel them into the African Energy Bank to bolster the continent’s energy security.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s leading maritime security firm, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) have been commended by stakeholders for its participation at the ongoing Offshore Technology Conference.

One of the stakeholders and President of Ijaw Youth Council, Jonathan Lokpobiri, lauded Tantita for flying the nation’s flag positively to the outside world. Lokpobiri who visited the Tantita’s stand at the event, said Tantita has demonstrated sufficient trust, professionalism and competence in maritime security services to begin to consider availing its services beyond the shores of Nigeria’s maritime, oil and gas shores.

He said; “This is the stand of Tantita Security Nigeria Limited at the ongoing Offshore Technology Conference in America, we want to see Tantita in China, we want to see Tantita in Europe and in other African countries.

“As long as security is concerned, Tantita Security Nigeria Limited has established a track record and should be consulted. From what I have seen on ground here, all the gadgets, and the slides of how the company carries out its operations, I have no doubts at all of the capacity and capability of the company to deliver, especially when you take into consideration what they have done back in Nigeria.

“They have been able to drastically increase Nigeria’s oil production through effective monitoring and policing the country’s oil pipelines and other oil facilities.”

Also, the Head of Sea Empowerment and Research Center (SEREC), Dr. Eugene Nweke applauded the security outfit for its rebranding and repositioning effort of the Nigerian oil and gas sector.

“The Tantitta’s determination to rebrand and reposition itself as a leader in tackling security and environmental concerns in the Niger Delta region is indeed laudable. The video footage of the conference simply highlights Tantitta’s efforts to rebrand and reposition itself as a leader in tackling security and environmental concerns in the Niger Delta region.

“It is not also surprising that stakeholders continuously commend the Tantita’s efforts in thinking national, home safety and security first of our maritime industry, as a priority, thus, attracting increased support and collaboration in the future.

“It must be stated that at the long run, the development seems promising for the well being of Tantita, Nigeria and the Niger Delta region. And to us at SEREC this development has some potential benefits, because it’s obvious that Tantita’s determination and participation in the global scene could trigger many benefits not only for Nigeria but for the sub region, Africa and the rest of the world in terms of Tantita’s unique maritime security proficiency.

“At a time that Mr. President of the Federal Republic has just graciously consented to the Marine and Blue Economy 10 Years National Development Policy plan, Tantita’s role cannot be better highlighted”, he stated.

On his part, Chairman Data Resources Ltd, Mr. Igho Kagbare, expressed enthusiasm that Tantita would soon become a global player in the maritime security pace:

He said: “I think that Tantita will return from this OTC Conference better equipped and connected with a wider network of global collaborators to enhance its operations in tackling crude oil theft, environmental issues and security concerns within the Niger Delta region and beyond.

“A security firm that is able to suppress pipe breaking and crude oil smuggling in the Niger Delta can tackle any related issues, elsewhere. I foresee a major maritime security player in the global space in Tantita.”

Earlier, Tantita’s Executive Director, Technical and Operations, Capt. Warredi Enisouh who is representing the company at the conference thanked Nigerians for their support, especially for believing in Tantita to always deliver; assuring that with the conference, people are asking to know more about Tantita.

“One small step for Tantita and a great one for Nigeria. Well done to you all for the priceless support. Nigeria has never been seen in this light here. We are currently overwhelmed and swarmed with people who want to hear our story. It’s good to have leaders who know that failing to plan is planning to fail,” he stated.
