The wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru, last weekend empowered 100 women as part of the Renewed Hope Agriculture Support Program at an event held at the Presidential Lodge, Old Government House, Abakaliki.
The beneficiaries received processing machines, seedlings, and other farming implements to support their agricultural activities. The costs of the commodities were not mentioned.
The initiative was implemented under the auspices of Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), led by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in collaboration with the Better Health for Rural Women, Children, and the Internally Displaced (BERWO) Foundation.
It aimed at addressing the challenges faced by women in agriculture in Ebonyi State.
The initiative, implemented in partnership with the Ebonyi State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, aims to enhance productivity, promote agribusiness, and create wealth among women and youth engaged in agriculture.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Nwifuru emphasized the crucial role women play in agricultural production while highlighting the challenges they face, including limited access to land, credit, and training.
She expressed her commitment to ensuring that women receive the necessary support to thrive in the sector.
“This program is a reflection of our collective commitment to food security, economic empowerment, and sustainable agriculture in Ebonyi State and Nigeria as a whole,” she stated.
“Through this initiative, we aim to enhance productivity and create opportunities for wealth generation.
“Women in agriculture are essential contributors to food production, yet they often lack the resources they need. Today, we are taking steps to change that.”
The Renewed Hope Agriculture Support Program comprises four key components: Women in Agriculture Initiative, Young Farmers Club, Every Home a Garden Campaign, and Youth in Agriculture and Empowerment Program.
These components are designed to provide agricultural training, access to resources, and financial support to participants, ensuring they can contribute meaningfully to food production and economic development.
Mrs. Nwifuru, who serves as the state coordinator for RHI, underscored the importance of collaboration with the BERWO Foundation in ensuring the program’s effective implementation.
She assured that through this partnership, the initiative would be closely monitored and sustained to achieve long-term benefits for the beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, noting that the support would go a long way in improving their agricultural productivity and financial stability.
The initiative aligns with the broader goal of enhancing food security and boosting agricultural engagement among women and youth in Ebonyi State.
