Wike launches rural road projects to ease food supply in FCT

By Grace Samuel

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched construction of road project targeted at addressing the long-standing challenge of transporting farm produce from rural areas to markets.

During an inspection of the ongoing 9-kilometer Paiko-Ibwa road project in Gwagwalada Area Council, Wike emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating that it will revolutionize agricultural productivity, increase farmers’ income, and enhance food security in the FCT.

The minister’s commitment to rural development is evident in the scope of the project, which involves the construction of a 9-kilometer road that will connect rural farming communities to major markets.

The road will be equipped with modern amenities, including drainage systems, streetlights, and pedestrian walkways, ensuring safe and easy transportation of farm produce.

Wike’s rural road revolution is expected to have far-reaching benefits for farmers and rural communities.

By providing a smooth and efficient transportation network, farmers will be able to transport their produce to markets quickly and easily, reducing post-harvest losses and increasing their earnings.

This, in turn, will stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and improve the overall standard of living in rural communities.

The minister’s inspection tour was accompanied by Senator Philip Aduda and top officials of the FCDA, demonstrating the collaborative effort to drive rural development in the FCT.

Wike commended the chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri, for his support to the contractor, Setraco Nigeria Limited, and expressed confidence that the project will be completed by December as promised.

With the completion of the Paiko-Ibwa road project, farmers in the FCT will no longer face the challenges of transporting their produce to markets, and rural communities will experience a significant improvement in their standard of living.
