Prof. Mark Mwandosya
Professor Mark Mwandosya is the Chairman of Stanbic Bank Tanzania Limited as well as a distinguished intellectual and author of numerous publications in the fields of engineering systems, energy, water, environment, and regulation of utilities.
A grassroots politician and former member of Tanzanian Parliament, he was at different times the Minister of State for Environment; Minister of Communication and Transport; and Minister of Water and Irrigation of the Republic of Tanzania, having earlier served as Permanent Secretary and Commissioner for Water, Energy and Minerals in the Civil Service.
A seasoned administrator, he was Chairman of the Boards of many high profile public enterprises including the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation; Tanzanian and Italian Petroleum Refining Company Limited; National Urban Water Authority; and Tanzania Industrial Research and Development Organisation. He was also Chairman of the Boards of Williamson Diamonds Limited; SIEMENS (Tanzania) Limited; Council of College of Business Education; and Kibo Paper Industries Limited.
Professor Mwandosya played indelible roles in the African environment advocacy as head of the Climate Change Studies Programme in Tanzania and a member of the Steering Committee of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) International Resource Panel. He has attended meetings of Subsidiary Bodies and Conferences of Parties (CoP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change since 1995.
Prof. Mwandosya also served as Chairman of the Group of 77 (and spokesman for the Group of 77 and China) at the meetings of the subsidiary bodies for the Climate Convention during the negotiations for the Kyoto Protocol. In 2007, the Tanzania Postal Services issued special stamp to recognise the contributions of Professor Mwandosya to the protection of the environment. He earned a PhD in Electrical and Electronic engineering from the University of Birmingham in 1977.
