Zero Carbon Ventures and Green Planet Launch Waste-to-Value Project in Cairo

By Faridat Salifu

In a groundbreaking partnership, Zero Carbon Ventures, a leading provider of low-carbon solutions based in Abu Dhabi, has teamed up with Egypt’s Green Planet for Sustainable Environmental Solutions to launch a cutting-edge joint venture.

The venture, dubbed Zero Carbon Green Planet (ZCGP), aims to transform organic waste at the May 15 landfill site in Cairo into valuable products such as graphene, hydrogen, fertilizer, and more.

Led by Martin Reynolds, CEO and co-founder of Zero Carbon Ventures, the team plans to set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Egypt.

This facility will use a proprietary “Zero Carbon patent-pending” system to extract maximum value from organic waste, effectively reducing methane and CO2 emissions while creating new, reusable products for the market.

With the backing of Tarek El-Araby, CEO of Egypt’s Waste Management Regulatory Authority (WMRA), the project is poised to boost Egypt’s circular economy and solid waste recycling rate to over 50%. The first phase of operations at the landfill site is scheduled to start by 2025, with the entire waste-to-energy project expected to be fully operational by 2027.

By employing up to 250 people, the sustainable manufacturing plant will not only contribute to a cleaner environment but also play a significant role in reducing Egypt’s poverty rate.

Zero Carbon Green Planet is committed to aligning with the Egyptian government’s goals and strategies, leveraging cutting-edge technology and local expertise to pave the way for a cleaner, greener future.

Moreover, the joint venture is dedicated to supporting research and investment in transformative technologies, with a special focus on harnessing the potential of graphene and other groundbreaking materials.

Through this initiative, Zero Carbon Ventures and Green Planet aim to drive a new clean industrial revolution not only in Egypt but across the region and beyond.
