The Water Environment Federation (WEF), Amazon, the University of Pennsylvania’s Water Center, and Leading Utilities of the World have jointly launched the Water-AI Nexus Center of Excellence to promote sustainable water practices within AI infrastructure and harness AI to address global water challenges.
Unveiled during Climate Week, the center aims to improve water efficiency in AI systems while applying AI technologies to tackle issues such as water scarcity and resource management.
The initiative will unite water utilities, tech firms, and researchers to ensure AI development aligns with environmental sustainability by minimizing water waste and tailoring solutions to local communities.
WEF President Howard Carter highlighted the urgent need for innovation, stating that water utilities face mounting pressures from climate change and aging infrastructure while serving growing community demands.
The Water-AI Nexus Center will foster collaboration between water and AI experts to create solutions benefiting both sectors and the populations they serve.
